Zentangle with Karen

Karen Kaiser is offering an interesting class.....on Zentangle.  It’s described as “An easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.”

Karen says “This will be a peaceful day of drawing. You will create pieces you never dreamed you could. In the end you will have many ideas for new rugs.”

The class will not involve hooking but Karen will show you how to translate your designs into rugs.

Tuesday June 19
9:30 -3:00
$70.00 (includes a kit)

Please contact Karen if you are interested.

A Cornucopia of Rugs

Yesterday was our last monthly meeting before the OHCG Annual, and it's always a fun time to see the rugs destined for display and/or entry at the show.  Our members didn't disappoint this year.  Check out all the goodies below!

Karen Kaiser was on hand and there was a line up of folks anxious to buy her wares!

As well, Christine returned from the sunny south and brought with her some lovely fabric for everyone to partake.  It came from someone in her Florida group with past links to Canada who was hoping for a good home for this stuff.  Thank you!  Here's a before and after shot of the table!

Brenda and Claire showed off their new bags from a visit to Martina Lesar.  They were justifiably proud of those bags.....now how to snaffle one when they're not looking????
We learned about 2 upcoming workshops - more details to be posted shortly:

Group of Seven with Carol Shewan
Welcome to new member Lynda, just new to Cobourg, but quite an experienced rug hooker!

Now on to those rugs.  We've seen some of them before when they were works in progress, but now they're done, bound, pressed and ready for display.  There are also a few rugs with hooking underway.

COLOUR WHEEL

We all know about colour, it's what makes our rug, "ours" makes it different, "unique", "have a special feel or emotion"................Well I found a great article on the Rug Hooking Magazine sight so click on this link in blue and check it out!

The article talks about primary colours and how adding white creates a hue and shows how you use a triad of 3 colours for a certain affect or use 5 colours in a row to create a harmonious feel.

Whatever mood you want to create can be achieved by choosing effective colours in your rug.

March/April Internet Round Up

Hello!  Here are a number of things we found recently that may be of interest to you.  Many of them have come from the OHCG Facebook page.

....This just in!  Here's the recipe for the Blueberry Coffee Cake we enjoyed at the March monthly meeting.  Courtesy of Patricia Gilchrist!.  Click here to go to the recipe tab.

- a lovely article about the Hooked Rug Museum of North America’s Canadian rug hooker of the year (2018)

- a series of photos on how to prepare an item for framing, from Susan L Feller.  Click on the arrows in the photo on the right hand side to see the additional info.

- learn about the Dorr Mill Store.

- see the table above about developing a growth mindset?  It's from an excellent article about how to approach creative challenges, given to 2nd graders, but very appropriate for all of us.  Here's the full article.

- researchers say knitting is good for you.....and the same is likely true of rug hooking.
